What's a Share?

Rather than aim for a certain tonnage of vegetables, we provide a diverse assortment of produce with each weekly delivery, almost always more than eight different vegetables, in quantities you can use.

Our members tell us that for a family of four that eats most of its meals at home, our share provides a good selection and quantity of vegetables. We go to special effort to put a diversity of items in each box, and to not include too much of any one thing.

Many of our CSA members have been pleasantly surprised at how many vegetables they eat when they have access to an abundance of fresh, delicious produce. Families with small children especially have found that the children get excited about the weekly box, and respond to the difference that truly fresh vegetables make.

CSA membership involves some risk. Members and farmers alike join in the pleasures and pitfalls of a summer in the Upper Midwest. At Rock Spring Farm, we mitigate the risks with hoophouse production, successive plantings of important crops, and utilizing soils both on the ridges and in the valleys of our hill country farm. As with all local, organic production, the price of a Rock Spring Farm CSA share includes things that have no value in the industrial agricultural model, like air and water quality, management of soil minerals, erosion control, carbon sequestration, enhancement of biodiversity, and sustainability for farm families and rural communities.
