Machinery Coordinator

This position is currently filled. 

As part of the Farm Team, the Machinery Coordinator has primary responsibility for working with the Production Manager and Farm Director to operate and maintain the more than thirty machines that support our fertility, growing, harvest, and post-harvest activities. We have three diesel tractors (30 – 70 hp) and an extensive array of specialized vegetable equipment to facilitate our horticultural production on approximately forty acres of managed land. The machinery ranges from brand-new to antique, and ranges in condition from excellent to fair. A two-car garage serves as the farm shop. 

Other responsibilities include maintenance of farm infrastructure and general horticultural farm labor as part of the Field Work Team. 

This position requires precision and attention to detail, as well as willingness to go with the flow, when necessary. Flexibility and judgment are mandatory. Rock Spring Farm grows over forty crops on two farms, rotating among over seventy fields. Field sizes range from 0.1 to 0.5 acres. 

The standard schedule for this position is 8:00am to 4:00pm in the spring and fall, and 7:00am to 3:00pm in the summer, Monday through Friday, with additional hours required on an occasional basis depending on weather and work to be done. Base wage is $8.00/hour, with additional consideration for previous experience and skills development on the job. This position is available to start immediately, and goes through November. 

Our ideal Machinery Coordinator would possess the following skills: 

        Previous work with farm machinery (required), ideally including tractors, three-point hitch implements, towed implements, powered implements, and cultivating equipment 

        Ability to drive a tractor straight 

        Ability to change the oil on a tractor 

        Previous work on a vegetable farm 

        Organizational skills 

        Past supervisory and leadership responsibilities 

        Ability to communicate in writing, with basic computer usage skills 

        Ability to solve problems independently
