Employment Opportunites

Get Dirty, Have Fun, Eat Well

Are you looking for an exciting workplace, an opportunity to stimulate your mind and exercise your body? Rock Spring Farm is at the forefront of the organic market garden renaissance in Northeast Iowa and Southeast Minnesota. Our diversified vegetable farm offers the chance for motivated individuals to enjoy the outdoors and be a part of developing a sustainable agriculture in the Upper Midwest.

Rock Spring Farm is currently accepting applications for the 2008 season.

We hire our larget crews from June through August, but we are always looking for qualified help in our year-round vegetable and herb growing and packing operations.

We encourage you to browse around our website for more information about our farm and our approach to the world, then either fill out the application (which you can download here) or email your resume and a letter of introduction to <farmteam("at" symbol)rsfarm.com>.

Currently open positions include:

Market Garden Team: From harvesting, washing, and packing vegetables and herbs for shipment to our discerning customers; to weeding, pruning, and keeping the whole farm running; our team has an eye for quality work, good times, and great food. The Market Garden Team is our primary seasonal work crew during the summer. We currently have positions available from now through November 30.

Farmers Assistant: Our primary help on the farm with everything from field work to the packing shed. Work with vegetables, perennial plantings, greenhouse crop production, packing shed and processing operations, livestock, and marketing. An excellent position for someone planning to farm in the future, or looking to build on previous market farming experience. If you are looking for an internship-type position, this is it. Year-round employment may be a possibility. Previous market farming experience required.

Crop Production Lead: Field preparation (tractor and hand tiller); mowing fields and farmyard; machinery and equipment maintenance; transplant production help; ride the transplanter; prune and trellis greenhouse crops; irrigation and watering; supervise small crews (such as for irrigation, pruning and trellising); help in the packing shed; perform tractor cultivation; wheel hoe and hand hoe; turn compost; scout for pests; spray botanicals and compost tea; help with harvest, especially on large, one-time harvest (squash, garlic); repair and maintain fences; assist with livestock. A great position (full time in summer, part time in winter) with loads of responsibility for a self-starting individual.
